Artist Statement:

My practice lives in the space between painting, photography, and sculpture. While most of the work conforms to the rigid rectangle – the structural basis of walls, windows, and doors—the images themselves are organic and gestural – placing an abstracted body into the geometric space. I manipulate and recycle once-finished paintings by soaking them in photographic chemicals, scanning fragments, and printing them. I use these paintings both as points of departure and tools for future work. Through these various procedures, I capture and portray visual artifacts, much like marks on walls, ceilings, and floors showcase the building process. 

Works like “I dwell in Possibility”speak to inhabiting space, and the series “Forever—Is composed of Nows I,II, III —” reflects on time, scale, and light – all themes that are evident in architecture. Like the upkeep of our time-worn monuments, edges soften and are renovated on a generational level. Marks in the finished works are directly informed by the environments in which they were created and continue to live in.
